The idea of a New television series for Dylan & Cole came in 2002. They were looking at different scripts, they turned down a lot of shows because they didn’t want a non traditional family.
The Sprouse’s and their manager teamed up with co-creator Danny Kallis in 2003 to come up with a fresh idea. "The Suite Life" idea came from Dylan and Cole from their real life experiences from living in hotels and causing chaos with the hotel staff when they were filming Big Daddy.
The original version of the script Zack & Cody were named Dylan and Cole. Maddie was Lena and London was originally called Paris. However once the writers got to know the boys a little more they changed Dylan and Cole’s character names to Zack and Cody. Casting for the show came together smoothly. Ashley Tisdale actually auditioned for Maddie and London’s characters. The producers saw Ashley and thought Maddie worked for her the best. Which was good news for Brenda Song who won the role of London. And for the role of Carey Martin two leading ladies Debbie Gibson and Kim Rhodes were up for the role. They ultimately decided on Kim Rhodes to play Zack and Cody’s mother. And Phil Lewis as Mr Moseby
The pilot episode of The Suite Life called "Grounded on the 23rd floor" was filmed on January 30th 2004. It took months to find someone to produce "The Suite Life" finally Disney bought the show and they filmed the 2nd episode in fall of 2004 . They decided to change the title to "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" and created a original theme song. The original theme was ‘Grow up’ by Simple Plan. Finally "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" premiered on the Disney Channel March 18th 2005. 14 months after they filmed the pilot episodes.
