Dylan & Cole stopped by The Today Show on 7/3/06 to promote Sprouse Bros Code
NBC: Well, if there's a junior high school aged girl in your house, chances are you know thirteen year old Dylan and Cole Sprouse, *crowd screams* the identical twins. yep, yep, everybody in our crowd loves them too. Well, they've been actors since infancy, they hit it big in Big Daddy, sharing a role of the boy adopted by Adam Sandler. Well, now they play opposite of each other in the Disney Channel's top rated hit, ‘The Suite Life of Zack and Cody‘. The show is so successful with young girls, that Dylan and Cole are considered "heart throbs," but their latest project is something for boys, it's actually a magazine. it’s called Sprouse Brothers Code, and it hits newsstands this week. Dylan and Cole, good morning to you!
Dylan and Cole: Good Morning!
NBC: So how do you like being "heart throbs" to all these beautiful young girls? *points to the crowd* What's it like? I mean, has your life just completely changed because the shows' in the second season now?
Dylan: *laughs* Heart throbs are cool...I like heart throbs.
Cole: It's actually pretty good, yeah.
NBC: You'll take it?
Dylan and Cole: Not bad! I'll take it! *laughs*
NBC: *laughs* No really, I mean this is the first show that you guys starred opposite of each other, because you've always kind of shared the role, so does that mean it's more work for the two of you?
Cole: Actually, i think its less work because we can actually relate to each other and we dont have to go in at the same time.
Cole: So, oh actually, yeah we do, we do.
NBC: Well, what's it like working with your brother, i mean you guys are with each other 24-7, and. And, i mean, now it must be a little stressful, right?
Dylan: Um.. Uh, u know..and..and, he is actually my brother in real life, so we do bring what happens at home to the set. Like, if, Zack and Cody do have a scene that involves, I don’t know. Wrestling...then we actually bring that, really to the show. *laughs*
NBC: Oh, ok.. You guys must be so mature for thirteen year-olds, I’m sure you hear that a lot, right, i mean how do you keep your head, kind of, above it all, and i know you get compared a lot to the Olsen twins, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. Um, how do you, kind of, get past the celebrity factor, or are you still kind of just learning how to deal with it, Dylan?
Dylan: Um... We, pretty much, we wanna still keep in touch with our friends. Because, in my eyes, it's just a show..I mean..I..it's just...
NBC: Not to these young girls, it's not! *laughs*
Dylan: *laughs* Well, it may not be, but to us it's just..you know..it's just ..doing what we have to do, i mean like..every...
NBC: You're pretty much right there with thirteen-year-olds, Cole, i mean, you go to school.....you...
Cole: yes...
NBC: girlfriends.....?
Cole: [pauses] All that jazz, But.. (laughs)
Cole: we are just regular thirteen-year-olds, except we're on a show. And..
NBC: a hit show on Disney..
Dylan: well we do have a lot of things coming out, such as a fan club!
NBC: And, tell me about this magazine, Code, because, i know this is obviously something that you guys are going to be very involved with, coming up...the quarterly magazine, and it's for boys...but, i mean, you're biggest fans are really girls..
Dylan and Cole: Yes.
NBC: How do you plan to make this different for the guys out there?
Cole: We thought of that, and we also, we looked at our magazine and we thought, there's a lot of gaming magazines right now, and there's a lot of sport magazines, and comics, and stuff like that. And that's what really our age group is really....reading...
Cole: ..So we wanted to condense that all into one magazine. Now, we know girls are our major fans, but we also want to appeal to the boys.
NBC: So you dont want this to be a fan club magazine. Or next to like the teen popstar magazines
Dylan: No, no...we actually, also, specifically told Dualstar to put it not anywhere near popstar, or anywhere near that, so..
NBC: Do they listen to you guys? I mean do you have a lot of say?
Dylan: we have full creative control over our magazine. And our fan club is on sprousebrothers.com..th at is ..uh...that is going on July 10th..for everyone who wants to sign up. and we have a lot of stuff going on right now, including movies, that might be coming out, we have a lot of stuff in the making..'
Cole: We have a book series that's coming out some time.
NBC: So we asked you guys about Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. I mean ..do you guys [Dylan coughs] have you talked to them because i imagine they probably have given you some good advice, i mean what advise are they telling you?
Cole: We have talked to them, and, they are exactly like us. My brother is exactly like Ashley [Interviewer laughs] and I am exactly like Mary-Kate.
NBC: Is that so?
Cole: it's really funny and they have they have given us advice, it's just kind of ..keep it real, don’t get a big head, and just love what you're doing, and have fun!
NBC: Well, you have a lot of little fans [crowd cheers and Dylan and Cole wave at them] that really want an autograph and want to get a picture with you, so i hope you'll get down there and say hi to them!
Dylan: oh, of course!
NBC: Dylan and Cole Sprouse, great to meet you both and best of luck to you on the magazine, the show, and everything else you're involved with!
Dylan and Cole: Thank you very much!
